CBD For Massage-It’s More Than You Imagine!

Smiling Young Female Receiving Relaxing Back Massage

I arrived at Crete, a gorgeous Greek island, after two weeks of Cyclades island-hopping.

Along with the perfect suntan and summertime mood, I brought with me an awful cervical pain caused by the Etesian winds. To make things worse, the very first day of my stay in Crete, I twisted my ankle trying to dance those imposing Cretan dances on high heels (what a moron!)

I was starting the last part of my vacation in pain. No high heels were allowed anymore. The headache was driving me nuts. I was feeling like Atlas; as if I was carrying the whole planet on my shoulders.

Statue Of Atlas Carrying The World On His Shoulders

My head, neck, and shoulders were so tense that they made me incapable of tolerating either myself or others around me. The pain had woken up the bitch in me.

It was then, the worst day of my summer vacation, that I met Manos.

The universe had sent me a massage therapist with the unique capacity to read pain in people’s eyes and an up-to-date view of alternative therapies: he uses CBD for massage therapies upon request!!

What? WOW!

My decision was instantaneous: I booked a 90-minute session. Being massage-addicted and a cannabidiol oil advocate, I knew that I would only benefit from a CBD massage therapy.

Follow me and let your senses live that amazing experience that really changed my life and saved my summer holidays.

My CBD massage therapy

Well, actually, there were two of them. How come?

Read on and you’ll find out!

My first therapeutic treatment

I arrived at the deserted beach I had chosen as the location of my treatment to find my therapist cleansing the energy of the area by burning a bouquet of dry sage.

I made myself comfortable on the massage table while he was preparing himself meditating.

Then the massage session started.

I have had treatments in almost every country that I have been to but I knew this one would be different: my body would be rubbed with CBD massage oil! I was excited and so looking forward to it!

He started my session focusing on my ankle.

“Wait! Set my sprained, swollen, inflamed and aching ankle aside, for now. My cervical pain is intolerable! Please, take care of it first.”

No way! He explained that he had to start from the feet and legs because they are regarded as the foundations of the spinal cord. He added that he uses a holistic approach with his treatments and that was what I was going to have.

Great! CBD was included! It couldn’t be more holistic than that.

To my surprise, he didn’t use a CBD oil massage when he began rubbing my aching ankle. He used the 1500 mg body butter my father uses for his psoriasis!

I knew the product, I had evaluated its strength and potential and I had reviewed the brand. A high-quality product by one of the top brands in the hands of a superb therapist!

Go ahead, Manos! You have my blessings!

He started by applying some reflexology techniques on my hurt foot. The pain caused by the treatment was by far less than the pain I was feeling walking. He didn’t pay much attention to the problematic point but he concentrated on the surrounding area and all the spots that triggered the pain.

I sensed a system-wide relaxation as he was working on the points of the ankle pain. The experience was becoming pleasant.

He had been massaging my aching foot for about fifteen minutes when I started feeling that the burdens of fatigue and limited mobility were being released.

He moved to the other foot. I got lost in space and time when feelings of numbness and weightlessness hit me! I had entered an elevated zen state when the therapist moved to my legs.

He focused on thighs and calves more than I would expect. Even though I am not a high-heeled-shoe fanatic, it seemed I had exaggerated wearing them and my legs’ muscles were complaining about the maltreatment. Knots here, knots there, knots everywhere!

Ouch!

“Darn! Zen is over”,

I thought.

Gosh, I couldn’t be more wrong!

As he continued working on my calves and thighs I felt all the knots dissolving and experienced an incredible sense of euphoria. This is life!

When the session came to an end,  all the pain was gone!

Hmmm… Did I say all the pain? Sorry, my mistake!

I was released from the “side effects” of pumps and the tension my accident had caused to my feet and legs but the cervical pain hadn’t vanished.

Less intense, I must confess, but still there.

We had to do something about it!

I left the beach with strict orders to avoid high heels for at least two days (Holy sandals it is!). The therapist informed me that the swelling would disappear in three days max.

Massage Treatment On A Beach By The Sea
Therapist Manos During A Massage Treatment On A Beach

My second therapeutic treatment

A second 2-hour session was scheduled for the next day. Same place, same time.

I was lost in love with that beach, the sounds of nature around me and the sunset colors that seemed to set the sea on fire, so nothing could convince me to have the treatment indoors.

I arrived at the beach as happy as a clam at full tide. The inflammation in my ankle had almost disappeared. My beloved CBD hadn’t failed me. Its anti-inflammatory properties had worked overtime during the night.

The preparation ritual was the same so I will cut the story short and get down to the indispensable details.

A CBD massage oil was used this time. The masseur focused on my head, shoulders, and neck applying gentle but decisive pressure on the tension spots. He insisted on these parts of my body for two simple reasons:

  • My cervical pain, a gift of my not-so-dear god of winds, Aeolus.
  • The myriad, countless, infinite tense-related knots that reigned in those areas.

I remember I couldn’t decompress physically or mentally and enjoy the treatment because of my cervical discomfort.

To be honest, the treatment was slightly painful at first. How couldn’t it be? My shoulders felt as stiff as cement. My neck hurt with every movement of my head. Add the headache and you have a wreck of a woman in front of you!

While the session was proceeding, I had the impression that the therapist was continuously untying burls or “cracking knuckles” in my body. As a matter of fact, I could swear of hearing snapping sounds.

While he was palm and finger-kneading all the knots out of the upper part of my body, I sensed a kind of chilly feeling and I realized that the pain was progressively decreasing.

  • First victim, my headache. It had vanished into thin air…
  • Second casualty, my cervical pain. I felt it dissolving gradually. What a relief!

The therapist dedicated an entire hour to my head, neck, and shoulders. Sixty minutes of pleasant distress that managed to release me from the suffering, the tension and the irritation they caused to me.

When he moved to my arms and back, I entered a trance-like state of mind and I could finally start enjoying both the treatment and the location.

The sound of the waves splashing onto the shore and the warm feeling of the sun rays on my relaxed body combined with the rhythm and the pleasant and intermittent pressure he was applying , were an entirely unique sensation.

I always tune out during a massage. Yet, this time was completely different.

The amazing union of Manos’s techniques and the CBD in the massage oil was really beyond imagination. The warm feeling of the boost in circulation and the cooling sensation from the CBD massage oil was phenomenal.

I was serene, carefree and untroubled. I could sense the nature surrounding me and the delicate fragrance of lavender in the massage oil. I abandoned myself to my therapist’s hands and got prepared to live it to the fullest.

That was my decision.

Yeah, right!

When my therapist informed me that the session was over and done, I realized I had lost track of time. Had I fallen asleep or had I been roaming in other dimensions? I’m afraid I can’t answer the question.

I am used to the relaxing effects of cannabidiol on my mind. But it was the first time I experienced its relieving consequences on my body.

And, man, was it a huge revelation!

60 minutes of my life were not imprinted in my brain. But they had left their tracks on my body.

I was reborn!

I felt as light as a feather and had the sensation of floating. My body was relaxed, at peace with itself; all the tension, a whole year’s worth, had vanished. My ankle didn’t hurt anymore. No irritation, no cervical discomfort, no headaches. No pain at all!

Happy dance! (Oh well, Cretan dance is the most appropriate term here!)

Manos waved me goodbye and left.

I remained on the beach, MY beach, realizing that my mind was completely empty. I wasn’t attached to any trivial concepts, I had no worries, thoughts or emotions, but I was mentally open to life as it was that very moment. I had no Ego. I was experiencing “the state of no-mindedness”. I was connected to Cosmos and I felt being an integral part of it.

Body and mind in absolute balance and harmony. Zen at the highest level!

Why you should try a CBD oil massage

The CBD explosion of the last few years is a fact you can’t deny.

The market is full of CBD products that can help you treat anxiety disorders, combat pain and inflammation, improve your sleep patterns…Oh well, the list is endless.

The CBD buzz has conquered the wellness world too!

CBD oil massage is becoming more and more attractive to people worldwide. No wonder spa owners and massage therapists have been upgrading the treatments they offer their customers with CBD infused products like massage oils, balms, salves, body butter, and lotions; CBD massage is the latest trend.

But is CBD oil massage becoming so popular simply because it’s a trend or because it actually works?

Let’s dig it up a bit.

Massage is considered an excellent method to help alleviate muscle soreness and science has backed up this claim. It seems that incorporating a CBD product in regular massage therapy is one of the best ways to benefit from both the treatment and the effects of cannabidiol.

Sound familiar?

Let me explain, or refresh your memory. Briefly, I promise!

Cannabidiol (aka CBD) is a phytocannabinoid compound extracted from the cannabis plant. Unlike its sibling THC, it isn’t addictive and won’t give either you or your therapist a “ high” in terms of mental function. (I can assure you, though, that your wellness levels will skyrocket to a new high!)

CBD cooperates with your ECS (Endocannabinoid system) and responds to numerous receptors spread out in your skin. Through binding with these receptors, it delivers messages to your nervous system and helps the ECS mitigate imbalances and restore homeostasis in your system.

Stress, anxiety, and aging are considered the main reasons for the lack of equilibrium in your body.

Sadly, we can’t avoid any of them. They all cause a buildup of inflammation and are liable for deficiencies in our Endocannabinoid System, preventing it from regulating, restoring and maintaining balance in our bodies.

It’s cannabidiol’s task to give a helping hand to the ECS and aid it to adjust your immune and nervous systems and regulate muscle tissue and skin as well.

CBD is world-famous for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties and, according to scientists, it reduces pain and inflammation when applied to the skin in the form of a topical product. In fact, a 2015 study conducted on rats with arthritis has affirmed that topical application of CBD reduces inflammation and relieves pain with no side-effects.

According to the Spa Industry Association:

“The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving agents of CBD reduce inflammation within muscles and joints, allowing the massage therapist to work more effectively. People seek massages as a way to relax and escape stress.”

Not only ordinary people.

Athletes are switching to CBD products to accelerate their recovery from injuries and speed up the healing process of damaged connective tissue. Cannabidiol has become the best pal of workout aficionados that chose CBD topicals to cope with DOMS and sore joints and muscles.

Not all CBD products are created equal

Mounting evidence implies that nutraceuticals like CBD are more efficient in their complete and natural state.

This phenomenon, known as the Entourage Effect, occurs when all the components found in the cannabis plant cooperate with the human body to induce a more powerful impact on health and wellness than they would do if they acted alone.

In simple words, cannabidiol acts synergistically with the terpenes, flavonoids and other cannabinoids extracted from the whole plant and this synergy is more efficient in terms of an overall health perspective.

This is what you should be aiming at experiencing from a CBD topical product.

So before having the CBD oil massage you have booked, don’t hesitate to ask the masseur all you need to know regarding the products he will be using during the massage.

CBD topical products can have lower levels of efficiency depending on the parts of the plant they have been extracted from. Full-spectrum, Broad-spectrum or whole hemp-extracted CBD products are more effective than CBD isolate products that contain only the CBD molecule.

Will CBD show on a drug test?

I have been using Full Spectrum CBD products without worrying about the trace amounts of THC that they contain. I don’t have to take any drug tests for any reason.

What if you have to take a drug test for a job interview or a random check? I am sure you are wondering whether your drug test result will be positive after a CBD oil massage.

The short answer is probably not.

Drug tests search for the presence of THC or THC-COOH, one of its metabolites, in your system; not CBD. Different testing methods have different cut-off values which were set to make sure that trace amounts of THC and its metabolite wouldn’t trigger a positive test.

A negative test doesn’t indicate that there are no THC or THC-COOH in your system; it means that their amounts are below the official cut-off values.

Drug test results depend on testing methods, their cut-off values and frequent use of joints or marijuana-derived CBD, the CBD oil brands’ reliability and the nature of the CBD product itself.

Let me break them up for you.

Mortar Cannabis Leaves CBD Oil

Testing methods

Urine Test

The cutoff value of THC-COOH in a urine test, the most common cannabis testing method in the workplace, is 50 ng/mL (nanograms per milliliter). An ng is around one-billionth of a gram.

To accumulate 50 ng/mL of THC-COOH in your system, you would have to absorb more than 2,000 mg of CBD (containing 0.3% or less THC). It’s unlikely that an average CBD user will consume such high amounts of cannabidiol.

Remember that THC and its metabolites are detectable for up to 5 days after use, in the pee test. The detection windows become “wider” when there is heavier and more frequent use of cannabis.

Blood Test

THC is detectable in plasma for only up to 5 hours and for this reason, blood tests aren’t used in the workplace. Beware though! Its metabolites can be detected even 7 days after use.

Values from 1 to 5 ng/mL indicate impairment. The authorities use blood tests in cases such as driving under the influence.

Saliva Test

Since saliva testing isn’t commonly used, there is no established set of cut-off values.

According to a recent scientific proposal for cannabis testing in oral fluid, the recommended initial screen cut-off value should be 4 ng/ml and confirmation cut-off value should be 2 ng/ml.

Hair Test

Hair testing is the most uncommon of all testing methods and there is no established set of cut-off values. THC and its metabolites can be detected in hair up to 90 days after use.

The cut-off value used by private industry is 1 pg/mg (picogram per milligram) of THC and its metabolites. A picogram is around one-trillionth of a gram.

CBD Oil brand transparency

Even though CBD extracted from industrial hemp was exempted from the controlled substances act and made tolerable at the federal level, CBD oil products aren’t FDA regulated.

This means that you should be cautious before committing to a brand and using its products. CBD oil brands must be characterized by reliability, transparency, and trustworthiness.

By law, the amount of THC existing in CBD products can be up to 0.3% in the USA and no more than to 0.2% in Europe (with the exception of Italy that permits an amount of 0.6% THC).

Unfortunately, the market is packed with companies that should be avoided like hell.

Not only don’t they provide their clients with what they need and pay for, but there have been detected amounts of CBD and THC that don’t comply with the law and the product labeling in their products.

Before having or even booking a CBD massage treatment, talk with the spa owner and/or your therapist and ask them about the quality of the products they use and the reliability of the company behind them.

Research the brand and look for the lab test results on their website that will inform you of the amount of THC and CBD their products contain. Get informed about their sourcing and extraction methods. If you can’t get any answers from the website of the brand, book a regular massage.

Full Spectrum VS Broad Spectrum CBD

There is a slight difference between Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum CBD.

The term Full-spectrum indicates that the product contains the whole range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids; THC included. On the other hand, in Broad-spectrum, THC has been ruled out resulting in a 0% presence of the cannabinoid and its metabolites.

If even the thought of trace amounts of THC in Full-spectrum gives you the heebie-jeebies, ask your therapist to use a Broad-spectrum product for your treatment.

Don’t worry! You will benefit from the Entourage Effect from both Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum CBD topicals.

CBD and Massage: a perfect match!

I experienced the synergistic effects of CBD and massage on my aching body this summer. I can, therefore, affirm that the union of a quality CBD massage product and the certified skills of a therapist is unsurpassable.

There is no reason to add the extra expense of cannabidiol in a regular massage if all you need is a relaxing session. I would strongly recommend that you try the combination of CBD and massage when you are on a rather “less stellar day” regarding mood and soreness. It will help you get the most out of the beneficial effects of CBD on both mind and body.

If you are a DIYer, you can purchase CBD topicals and use them as “at-home” remedies for areas of their body that need to be relieved from pain and inflammation.

I know massage treatments are pricey and none of us can afford them on a regular basis.

Yet, the special massage techniques of a skilled and certified therapist will make you experience the full potential of cannabidiol and benefit from its potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Don’t you think it’s time you offered your wellness this extraordinary gift?

  1. I did not know that CBD oil was available for massages. I have had some treatment for pain in my ankle, from when it was broken. I wonder what a session with CBD Oil for massage would do for my reoccurring pain.
As always you have opened my eyes to new uses for CBD oil products. Your website is a great place to learn all of the benefits of using this product.
Can’t wait to see what my next session of treatment will be like, I don’t know of any massage places using CBD oil around here. I will have to do a search to find out.
    John

    1. Welcome back, John!
I know you are a CBD user and aware of its benefits. I can assure you that a massage session with CBD will help your reoccurring pain a lot.
I hope you can find massage places using CBD in your area. If not, you can use a cannabidiol topical product and become a massage therapist for yourself 🙂 I do it for my dad and his psoriasis and my mum’s knees and feet!
If you try it, let me know what it was like!

  2. Thanks Effie. Now I want a massage. lol. Very informative article and you answered the most important question for me. I have wanted to try CBD as I think my knees would benefit. I was too nervous about the testing as any positive test would end my career. I am so glad you covered that.

    1. Hey, Brian! I know you envy me for my experience 🙂
I was thinking of your knee while writing the article! IMHO, you should use a broad-spectrum topical product.
Next time you have a question, PM me. I usually answer questions with detailed and thoroughly researched articles 🙂 Stay tuned for the next one. It will give you all the info you need! Take care!

  3. Love this story, Effie. So glad that Manos saved the day, and the summer holidays, for you! You are so generous in promoting his service on your post. If I ever get a chance to visit Crete, I will definitely get him to do a CBD massage for me!

The differences between full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD, as well as the various testing methods for THC are very valuable information too.

In fact, I am experiencing the usual aches right now, from sitting for long hours at my desk. I’m going to make a booking with my massage therapist to try and relief me of those aches, though still no CBD in my country.

Thanks for writing from your heart, as always. 🙂

    1. Joo!
I am happy that my article reminded you of booking a massage treatment to get some relief! I am still sorry that you and your people can’t exploit the full potential of a massage therapy combined with cannabidiol. It’s such a pity!
I always try to enrich my articles with information that my readers might need in order to understand all about CBD and the various terms connected to it.
Remember that we create the chances. There is no if regarding your visit to Crete. I can accept only the word “when” 🙂 I’ll be there to welcome you!

  4. Hey Effie,

I just have to say that I absolutely love the way that you write. Your writing is so engaging and interesting, and you are great at inputting funny messages here and there. Your articles are quite a joy to read.

I have also been hearing a lot about CBD oil recently. I have started to practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and my teacher has been saying how CBD really helps with his joint pain that he occasionally gets from doing BJJ for 20 years.

I was thinking about trying it sometime but since I live in China at the moment it is quite difficult to get a hold of. Maybe I can try it some other day when I am living in another country.

Also, your website logo is awesome!

    Cheers,

    Max

    1. Max, I am blushing! I didn’t know you like my writing style. It actually reflects who I am. I believe humor is indispensable when dealing with serious matters such as health. It kind of lowers the tension, don’t you think? Smiling always makes our lives better and more joyful.
CBD is very effective with joint pain and all kinds of pain, to be precise. I would suggest to give it a try too.
Of course not in China! I am not sure about the quality of Chinese CBD products; too much pollution there!
Feel free to contact me anytime you need help and advice.
      Take care!

  5. Dear Effie

Thank you very much for this awesome article. It is amazing what CMD combined with massage can do to people. I loved the way you presented your experience. It made me want to experience a CBD oil massage as soon as possible. I hope more people will know about your website and give CBD a try.
    Kind regards,
    Andrey

    1. Welcome back, Andrey.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I can personally affirm that CBD combined with the healing techniques of a skillful massage therapist is miraculous! I experienced it and I am looking forward to doing it again. If you get the chance to experience it, remember my words and go for it!
      Cheers!

  6. Wow! I didn’t even know that CBD massages were a thing! But that sounds incredible. I will have to see if I can find anywhere around my area.

I don’t know much about CBD. Are there other good uses for it? I think that it is legal in my state now so I think I could try it out if you recommend anything!

    1. Hey Wilson! Welcome to my website!
CBD massages are the latest trend! And, yes, there are lots of uses for this natural, non-addictive and non-psychoactive compound of the cannabis plant. I would be glad to recommend it if you were kind enough to contact me and tell me more about you and your needs. I personally use CBD to cope with my anxiety and PTSD problems. Others use it to deal with pain and sleeping issues. Every user consumes it to feel better and deal with a certain ailment. You can consult my previous articles and know more. Unless you have specific questions; I would love to give you the answers you seek!
      Cheers!

  7. Wow, Effie! Your article makes me want to hop on the next flight to Crete! I have never had a massage but you have convinced me that I must have one at my earliest convenience. I have not used CBD products topically but I’m thinking that I’ll add some to my next CBD order just to have around in case my osteoarthritis kicks in again.

    1. Tempting, isn’t it? I am not sure I have been eloquent and descriptive enough. Sometimes words can’t convey what the senses perceive. My massage treatments with CBD oil massage products were an experience beyond imagination. I am really looking forward to doing it again. I told you I am massage-addicted 🙂
